Criticising is not the right approaching option in Jordan, we neglect the criticisms and don' t support it , this possibly because of our culture , we don't like negative comments , we tend to hear the complements all the time as we are doing the right thing , but i would strongly argue here that we need to accept the criticisms and even appreciate them in order to develop ourself , communities and country, so what is going to be written here is based on accurate theories and standards in the hospitality and its not arguable things in the most cases , let's move on to the Jordanian hospitality industry and analysis why its non-competitive on the global levels, why its not preferred on the international stage as the Spanish one , why there is no one restaurant in michelin guide, why no one restaurant or cafe has awarded the best design award .
To break it down I `ll start by posting a simple example to make it more understandable for the readers , A cup of coffee in any Cafe in Australia is ranged between $2 - $ 4 , whereas the cup of coffee in any Jordanian Cafe is ranged between 1.8 JD - 3.5 JD which would be equal to $ 4 AUD or more, sounds good ? the wages of the Barasita in any Australian Cafe would be ranged from $ 14 - $ 20 per hour and sometimes would be higher and in few cases would be lower if it was illegal employment situations , while the Jordanian Barista's daily wages would never exceed the 10 JD , the differences started to show up here ? ok , i am not going to discuss the rent, the ingredients , shipping etc since its miles higher in Australia than Jordan , but the thing is why the cup of coffee in Jordan is more expensive than Australia? or equal in few cases ? why ? i am trying to figure out why but can't solve this equation , furthermore, the funny thing is that the Jordanian coffee in most cases its anything but coffee, i was at (Spin Out) last night and i order latte'e and it was anything but Latte'e , they have no clue how to serve it , ask any Barsita in the developed countries how we should serve the Latte'e , he would say , IN A GLASS , Silky milk poured over a shot of espresso , not a cold milk poured over instant coffee served in a cup , this is wrong , there are some basics you should follow in service , you cant be creative here , try the creativity somewhere else, i reckon that there should some training institutions offer short courses about the basic things , such as , coffee , wine and service standards in order to develop the workforce in Jordan !!! A part from this example there are heaps of things have to be mentioned here , It could be that the Jordanian waiters or kitchen staff cant afford a meal in their workplace while in other countries one or two hours from his wages could be able to offer him a meal where he works , these conditions would reflect on the staff performance making it better or lower.
Another thing should be added into the account , the service charge ,10% extra will be added into your bill ! why ? all the variable and fixed costs are already have been already added to the price , so the thing is , why they charge for extra 10 % ?
therefore, these reasons , such as bad employment status , poor wages will make the employees struggling in a delivering a good service to the customers , whereas , the service in the developed countries became more sophisticated and proficient ,
therefore , hospitality organizations should consider these conditions in order to improve their workforce performance and their service standards
